Empowering Young Girls Through the Girlology® Program
As girls navigate the transition into adolescence, providing them with the right support and information becomes crucial. The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is stepping up to fill this gap by hosting its popular Girlology® puberty session on October 5. Designed for girls aged 8-14 and a parent or caregiver, this event addresses important topics ranging from growth and development to emotional health and internet safety.
Creating a Safe Space for Important Conversations
Talking about puberty can be awkward for parents and children alike. Dr. Nirvana Manning, department chair and professor at UAMS, emphasizes the program's aim: “Many parents find it difficult to talk about puberty. This program is designed to make it easier to start these important conversations.” By working through subjects like hygiene and menstruation in a supportive environment, families can feel more comfortable discussing these changes openly.
The Growing Demand for Puberty Education
Since its inaugural session in August 2022, UAMS has been able to engage more than 1,200 families through Girlology®. This thriving interest underscores a community need for accessible, expert-driven information on puberty, further highlighting the importance of events like this. UAMS will continue its mission to foster healthy dialogue around these vital issues, empowering young girls to transition into adolescence with confidence.
Continuing Support Beyond the Seminar
Girlology® isn’t limited to just this event. It’s a comprehensive program that includes a digital health app, which provides ongoing resources, video content, and opportunities for live engagements. This tool is instrumental in not only educating girls but also encouraging them to maintain healthy habits and practices as they grow.
For just $30, families can participate in this invaluable session. If cost is an issue, scholarships are available to ensure every girl has the opportunity to gain the knowledge she needs. To learn more and register, visit uams.health/girlology.
